Jane Birkin’s Ultimate Summer Dress
I am back in the south of France, and am finally experiencing some serious summer heat. How perfect it is to just sit back on the beach with a good book (or the occasional French Vogue, mind you) and stare at an outrageously blue sky. Not to mention the accompanying plate of fruits de mer and a tall glass of chilled white wine.
After doubting and messaging my friends in a fit of confusion (should I get them? Should I refrain?), I finally bought the Castañer Espadrilles wedges in black. Much of my hesitation came from not knowing whether to opt for the blue or black colour. I decided on black, as it increases the wearability and has a bit of a city chic vibe. Also, Alexa Chung has the exact same pair. I know that isn’t a style standard or anything, but it increases the cool factor for me times ten.
These days, I am dressed as how I imagine Jane Birkin to dress during summer. Oversized white shirts on cut-off Levi shorts and the occasional mini summer dress. Nonchalance over anything and nothing too sexy; in the end being able to move around effortlessly is key. However, finding these simple summer dresses has proven to be a bit of a challenge; I get tremendously and meticulously picky when choosing one and tend to focus too much on finding the perfect pattern, cut, shape and colour. How do other people shop? I feel as if I need to give in a little and settle for the best I can find. Anyway, I have recently become interested in the shop Reformation. Their prices are setting me back (most of their dresses are not that suitable for everyday wear when you live in a Northern European country anyway), but a girl can dream, can’t she? I have compiled a little list of favourite summer dresses below. They make the search for a summer dress a little more concrete.
